This is a RED Alert - anyone who tells you that an articles marketing strategy needs to be complicated, hard to execute, or difficult to implement is lying to you.

Maybe they are selling some sort of articles marketing strategy “solution” or perhaps they tried driving qualified pre-sorted traffic to their web site using articles and it didn’t work.

And rather than admit that they could not execute a very simple strategy - they told you it was too hard. These people are like the folks selling “the earth is flat” story just because they did not understand how it was possible for the earth to be round.

I remember the first time I heard the expression, “we’re making good time, but we’re heading in the wrong direction” as if speed was an excuse for accuracy. Before the Internet, discovering exactly who was interested in what you were selling was, for those of us with limited budgets, very difficult - really hit or miss. Unless, that is, you were an analytical person who would invest the time to do the market research.

For most entrepreneurs and small business owners this was unlikely to happen because momentum is in their blood. Many of us feel comfortable only when we are in motion. If we’re going the wrong way we always think we can make the adjustments and get back on track more easily than if we are sitting there trying to figure out the right way to go.

Research. Today we can do our market research in minutes using tools that never existed, or at least were not affordable for us, until now. The Internet marketers call it keyword research because people identify what they are looking for based on the keyword phrases they use - those words we plug into the search engines every day.

The experts say that 90% of the information that is retrieved from the Internet comes from search engine results. So, if we know exactly who we are looking for and what keyword phrases they will be using when they are searching for what we are selling - then all we have to do is be right there on the first page of Google for those results.

Keyword research may tell you that your niche is not big enough or the people are not searching on the words and phrases you thought they’d be using. Your web site might be number one based on a completely irrelevant search phrase that no one - but you - thinks is the right one. Or your research did not point out that the sites that are ranking for the broad match search you have chosen are sites like Amazon.com or ESPN - sites you will never ever be able to rank well against.

If you have done an excellent job of researching the keywords that people use when looking for what you are selling - you can write articles of value around that keyword phrase and post those articles on web sites with more traffic than you’ll ever have. Every article everybody writes and posts on a web site like EzineArtilces becomes like a little magnet for you - attracting people to your web site. Write your articles to attract the right people for the right reasons.

Execution: On the Internet content is king bla bla bla. We’ve heard this so many times some people actually believe it. Content, original content is what it’s all about. If your articles marketing strategy is composed of public domain junk, other people’s content, or the worthless articles you can buy by the train load - your articles marketing strategy will fail and you and your company will be diminished in the process.

There are so many tools around - article templates to help you create articles that follow consistent patterns and article writing services to name only two - there is no excuse for putting up junk with your name on it. Writing a nice article may take a little longer but it will be around forever. If your mother called and said that her best friend came across one of your articles, would you be proud or embarrassed? That is the test isn’t it?

Distribution. For an articles marketing strategy to have the results you’re looking for - results that make the investment worthwhile, the articles have to be read by as many of the right people as possible for as long as possible in as many places as possible. Doing the keyword and market research is critical - because it will help you focus your articles in the right direction. Creating, or getting someone to create, well reasoned original content will make your mother proud and will provide the search engines something worthwhile to serve when the keyword searches happen.

And jump starting the process by having each article posted on literally hundreds of web sites with thousands of readers and subscribers who tell their friends and colleagues about your story - maybe they send them the link, etc. A single article can be on a thousand web sites, a dozen articles can be on several thousand web sites and a hundred articles can be … you get the idea.

When I finish this article I will submit it to two very large article distribution services, announce it to a dozen or so social media sites, and add it on my blog - which posts it to a few more social media sites. And all of that promotion takes less than a half hour.

Your articles marketing strategy can be up and running in no time and if you do the keyword market research you’ll  not only be attracting visitors to your web site - you will be inviting the right visitors, buyers ready and willing to spend money with you.

How to Choose a Pay-Per-Click Firm That Turns Clicks into Clients

Posted by cwallace | Small Business Marketing Strategies | Monday 15 June 2009 12:58 pm

There are two paths that you can take when it comes to managing your pay-per-click advertising campaign online.  You can learn it yourself and make Google’s stock rise higher while you figure out the learning curve, then spend a lot of time keeping it running smoothly. Or, you can hire a professional pay-per-click firm to handle it for you.

I did both.

See, I know the position you’re in right now. I’ve been there.  I’ve hired and fired 2 pay-per-click management companies. I was forced to learn on my own and spend tens of thousands of dollars.

Helpful Tips for Internet Conference Calls

Posted by cwallace | Articles Markeing Strategy, Small Business Marketing Strategies | Tuesday 12 May 2009 1:34 pm

When it comes to an articles marketing strategy for business - there has to be a plan, a reason - what exactly you want people to do after they read your articles.

For most people that means getting them to come to your web site.

Once there you will want to capture them in some way - such as with a database marketing program, so you can invite them to conference calls where your products and services are being showcased.

——–

Before you can accurately determine which of the many conference call services are for you, you must consider what you want the experience and the response of the people you are inviting to be. If this is a free introductory call you may opt for one type of solution, if you are clearly selling something or if the invitees are already your paying customers - there are other considerations.

The benefit of connecting with people in groups over the phone can not be over stated. The attendees do not have to leave their offices and neither do you. When you can put 100 or so people in the “room” on a regular basis you will be able to sell more and service more and do so much more cost effectively.

How to Create an Effective Articles Marketing Strategy

Posted by cwallace | Articles Markeing Strategy, Small Business Marketing Strategies | Thursday 26 March 2009 1:56 pm

Before attempting to tell you, based on my experience, how to develop an effective articles marketing strategy - let me try to illustrate why it is important that you do so.

Articles in the newspaper, magazines, and professional journals have always been the most effective way of showing our audience that our insights have value.

For college professors the expression “publish or perish” meant literally that, if you could not get your work published by a reputable academic publication, it was unlikely that you would be taken sufficiently seriously by your peers - putting a very real ceiling on your career growth.

In 1483 Martin Luther used his writing to start a revolution in faith that spread around the world. Others before and since have used the power of the written word to promote themselves, their opinions, and their uniqueness in their marketplace.

Most of us regular people develop our articles marketing strategy to help us gain customers or clients. We want to rise above the noise of our competitors, provide substance not hype, and we want to back up our assertions with facts - all things we can do more effectively through an article writing campaign than in any other way.

And because there is no editorial board running the Internet, we do not have to seek the approval of our “betters” in order to get our message published - making relevant and well reasoned articles a small business marketing strategy that can be truly effective.

When your articles drive people to your web site you have done the hard part. Getting the right traffic to our sites is job #1.

Because people search the Internet for solutions and your articles address them compellingly enough for people to click through to your web site - you have won the battle for their attention. You must now convert that fleeting attention into action. Depending on your product or service and the normal buying process you may have an opt-in page powered by a shopping cart system, simple direct sales offers, or another relevant call to action.

Needless to say there is no “single” articles marketing strategy that is most effective for all of us all the time or there would be just one. Of course there are some that work better than others - and what will work best for you depends upon your strengths and your objectives.

When I began writing articles for online publication I had an objective - something I want people to do after reading them and something I wanted to become more widely recognized for. You should do the same.

Are you an expert? Well of course you are, even if you feel funny about identifying yourself as an expert. In your field you are an expert. It is up to you to define what you are an expert at, illustrate your particular uniqueness. Practically everyone is an expert at something and if you really don’t consider yourself an expert then you can learn to be one by hiring someone that is actually an expert and modeling them.

Did I mention that this is a small business marketing strategy that costs next to nothing, other than your time researching and writing the articles themselves? You can easily set up an autoresponder system powered by a shopping cart program and distribute these articles in the form of an email newsletter.

This is not your conventional newsletter that requires you to go to the printer and distribute a three or four page synopsis of what’s going on in your company or community.  It is an electronic version of that old-fashioned, and in its time, most effective marketing and customer retention tool.

In order to set up your 21st century email newsletter, you need a small business marketing strategy that allows you to gather e-mail addresses. Let’s say that you start out with one of your customer’s e-mail addresses.  You send them a copy of your electronic newsletter.  (Always ask for permission first)

If the newsletter includes some bit of advice that their friends would find interesting, encourage them to send it along to them.  Research indicates that most people have at least six friends that they contact regularly.

Because of the popularity of social networking, some people have dozens of friends that they are in touch with on a regular basis.  With an effective articles marketing strategy, you can tap into that network and grow your business.

One suggestion I always make if you expect to have an effective small business marketing strategy is to precisely identify your specific niche audience.  What group or groups of people would be especially interested in your products or services?  If so, that’s your niche.  Are there discussion boards, social networks or e-magazines targeting that niche?

There is a web site for practically every hobby or group interest that you can think of.  If you run a company that made kites, you can find specific groups of people that are kiting enthusiasts.  All that you need to do is to start writing brief informational articles about kites and then post those articles at a kiting e-magazine.  A link would be placed in the article that connects to your web site.

This type of articles marketing strategy does not even require you to collect e-mail addresses to grow your business.  It’s all electronic.  Learn more about these strategies and start watching your customer base grow.

Articles Marketing Strategy - 5 Powerful Article Marketing Strategies

Posted by cwallace | Articles Markeing Strategy | Monday 9 March 2009 10:03 pm

Article marketing is generally renowned nowadays on the internet for its ability to provide long term targeted traffic. With all the latest and greatest techniques constantly being discovered nothing has stood the test of time like writing articles.

In fact any successful online business usually incorporates article writing as part of their marketing strategy. Composing articles is not all that difficult but there is a certain amount of labor involved.

To maximize the return on your efforts you’ll want to be sure to adhere to the 5 following strategies:

STICK TO WHAT YOU KNOW

You want to focus on subjects with which you have some knowledge. When you write an article your intentions are to provide information the reader may not be aware of. If you tend to ‘ramble’ on and say nothing your reader will quickly leave. Your ability to inform, entertain or provide insight is what will make your article writing efforts effective. Readers will be more inclined to view you as an authority.

Also and needles to say, the more informed you are on the subject the easier it will be for you to write an article.

SERVE UP USEFUL CONTENT

A significant advantage article writing offers is the ability to attract targeted traffic to your online business. Knowing in advance to whom you are writing is important from the standpoint that you’ll want to provide content this market is interested in. What are the current issues, problems, or questions facing your readers?

If you write an article addressing these issues, problems, or questions you’ll likely attract the type of reader you’re targeting.

USE ‘STICKY’ TITLES

The internet is a fast moving environment in which any reader can visit or leave your article as ‘quick as a click’. The first thing readers will see will be your headline. You must learn to write descriptive, catchy, shocking, and/or thought provoking headlines to catch their attention. Often times the headline is the ONLY thing a person may view to decide if they’re going to read on any further.

DON’T FORGET YOUR BIO BOX

Your bio box also referred to as the resource box is where you get the chance to ‘introduce’ yourself to the reader. This is the ONLY place that it is appropriate to do any promotional advertising about your product or business.

By placing a link back to your site along with an effective ‘call to action’ for the reader you’re goal is to generate traffic by enticing readers to click on the link.

Although your resource box should, by design, be brief, do not underestimate its importance. Reader response to any promotional advertising here will ultimately be the measure of how effective your article writing efforts are to generate traffic.

SUBMIT CONSISTENTLY

Simply stated you’ll want to submit articles on a consistent basis adhering to the 4 other aforementioned strategies we discussed above. The more you submit articles the more exposure you’ll create for yourself and your business.

Article marketing is a strategy where by supplying useful content to online readers you’ll entice them to visit your business. The effectiveness of your efforts lies primarily within the quality of your article content and the compelling call to action within your resource box. Just remember to always proofread your work.
